Happy Shopping Spotlight: Ceilla

If you’ve recently stopped by the Macey’s in Logan for a Kong Kone or salad you’ve probably seen Ceilla, our service deli manager. Over the last 15 years, Cellia has worked in the butcher block, meat-deli department, and currently manages the service deli. Her dedication to great service has made her a guest favorite.

“I love helping customers and getting to know them,” Ceilla said when asked about her favorite part of working at Macey’s.

Celila is instrumental in creating the Happy Shopping experience Macey’s is known for. She goes above and beyond simply getting guests the deli items they need and makes an effort to get to know them. This has resulted in many lasting friendships with shoppers and her team. One of Ceilla’s favorite memories is when she and the other managers traveled to San Francisco to visit the Columbus meat factory to learn about the products. The trip helped the team bond and work better together.

“Ceilla is a great team member with a passion for our store and the service deli,” said Jordan Resch, the Logan store director. “She has a great selling mentality and cares a great deal for her team.”

Her passion for people goes beyond her customers and coworkers. Ceilla has six beautiful grandchildren. Each week on her day off she baby-sits two of them. She loves the time she gets to spend with her family.

Ask Ceilla what her favorite Macey’s product is and she’ll tell you Kong Kones. “It’s the best ice cream in town!” She also recommends trying the fresh-made doughnuts and smoked ribs.

We’re proud to have Ceilla on the Macey’s team in Logan. Next time you’re in the store, make sure to stop by and say hello.

 Macey’s Logan

The entire team at Macey’s in Logan embodies Happy Shopping in their commitment to helping each other out whenever and wherever someone needs help. The desire to help goes beyond the store walls. Macey’s is an active part of the Logan community and happily supports many local schools, charities, and participates in multiple community events. They’re also very proud of Cache Valley and our Utah State Aggies! Keep up the great work, team!

Macey’s Spotlight March: Jorge Elgueta

Jorge Elgueta has served guests in the meat department at Macey’s Plesant Grove for almost 14 years. He’ll celebrate the milestone next month and looks forward to many more years of helping guests get great meat products. Jorge is currently the meat manager, but has worked almost every job in the department since starting out as a meat cutter.

“I like my job. I enjoy everything I do here,” Jorge said.

Helping guests get exactly what they need is one of Jorge’s favorite parts of his job. He’s a great example of Happy Shopping because he is continually smiling and happy to help everyone he comes across. Need help picking the best meat for dinner? Ask Jorge! He’s always very informative about the best selection of product and loves to help guests.

Serving shoppers goes beyond just providing great product. For Jorge, it means making sure there is enough of the type of meat and cuts guests want, even if he has to come back in after his shift. He recalls one night where the store was really busy and a guest wanted a certain cut. They didn’t have any left and Jorge had already left for the night. Someone called him and he came back to the store to cut the meat for the shopper.

“Jorge is an amazing team member because he goes above and beyond for not just the guests, but also the team. He’s always willing to teach and manage the business side of things,” said Amber Condie, assistant store director at Macey’s Pleasant Grove. “He’s always making sure we have everything our guests need.”

Macey’s Spotlight: Naomi Whitehorse

With experience in multiple departments, Naomi Whitehorse is always eager to help guests at Macey’s in Sandy. She currently works in the produce department, but has gotten to know guests as a cashier and in the deli over the last year and a half. No matter what department she’s working in, she has loved every minute of working at Macey’s.

“I love working at Macey’s because I get to help guests find great products,” Naomi said. “Helping people is what I’m all about.”

Interacting with store visitors and providing product suggestions is Naomi’s favorite part of her job. She is committed to helping shoppers find the items they need, promoting healthy lifestyles with excellent produce, and making their day a little better by being happy and helpful.

Interacting with guests goes beyond simply telling them where products are. Naomi says she likes to get to know the frequent guests and has built friendships with many of them. These relationships motivate her to be better at her job and help more people.

While the guests may be her favorite part of her job, she loves the Macey’s team in every department. “I’ve had a chance to get to know everyone in the store from the bakery to the front end to the grocery team. My coworkers are really fun and outgoing and that makes me enjoy my job even more.”

“Naomi has a great attitude every day! She is fantastic with guests and always gets them what they need or finds someone that can assist them so they are pleased and happy. She embodies the Happy Shopping experience and helps build morale in the store,” said Gary Carter, Naomi’s store director.

Favorite Macey’s Item: Kong Korn. “It’s a staple in my house and my mom’s house! It’s at every party and event we host because we love it so much. We’re from Arizona and we always bring it with us when we visit family there. They can’t get enough.”

Tip for Shopping at Macey’s: “Grab an ad and check for deals, download digital coupons, and never skip the Treasure Aisle.”

Macey’s Spotlight – CJ Linford

If you’ve shopped at our Spanish Fork location, you’ve probably seen CJ Linford greeting each guest with a smile. CJ is one of our front-end courtesy clerks and has been part of the Macey’s team for 13 years! He’s worked in almost every department throughout the store. He began his Macey’s career as a courtesy clerk, moved to the dairy, and joined the produce department for a bit before returning to the front-end team. Regardless of where he’s worked, CJ is always happy to help and loves talking to everyone.

Helping guests makes CJ’s day. He knows the store regulars by name and catching up with them during each visit brightens his day. He loves seeing them smile too. CJ also enjoys working with the entire Macey’s team.

“My team are my friends,” CJ said of his coworkers.

His team also considers him a good friend.

“CJ always has a positive attitude. It doesn’t matter what is happening in the store, CJ just keeps smiling,” said Bill Summers, store director at Macey’s in Spanish Fork. “He will do whatever we ask him to do. He doesn’t care if he is bagging or cleaning up a mess, he is always happy. I know that if I have a bad day, CJ will pick me up. We have CJ train our new baggers because we want his attitude to spread to all of our new team members.”

Favorite Macey’s product: Twist Kong Kones. “They taste really good!”

Tip for Shopping at Macey’s: Don’t be afraid to ask for help. The whole team wants to help you!

Employee Spotlight-Alex Jackson

This month’s employee spotlight is on Alex Jackson, Closing Manager at the Macey’s in Providence.

Alex started working at Macey’s in Providence just over three years ago. Most of his time with Macey’s has been as the meat/deli supervisor.

Alex is a great team member and everyone has great things to say about him. Kerry Chin, the store director at the Macey’s in Providence said:

Alex Jackson outstandingly represents our company values. He is an exceptional leader, has great guest service, and always willing to go above and beyond. He is more than willing to help other departments where needed and has a great attitude. Alex understands the importance of engaging with front line team members in a positive manner. They feed off of his enthusiasm.”

Alex loves his job and it is evident to all that meet him. He always has a smile and is enthusiastic about everything. He likes the challenge that each day at Macey’s brings and enjoys figuring out how to adjust things based on that day’s circumstances.

Alex offers great customer service, and those that shop at the Providence store have noticed. A while ago a lady was shopping at the store for the first time and was having a hard time finding what she needed. Alex noticed that she needed assistance and walked her through the entire store to get everything on her list. Alex also went above and beyond by talking through meal plans and other details to make her shopping easier. The guest really enjoyed her visit now visits Macey’s often.

Alex’s favorite Macey’s item is the scratch-made poppy seed muffins from the bakery. “They are so delicious”, he said. The smell coming from the bakery each morning entices him to run over and buy one. If you haven’t tried Macey’s muffins, be sure to pick some up on your next shopping trip.

The next time you are at Macey’s be sure to say “hi” to Alex.

Macey’s Employee Spotlight – January 2016

Welcome to Macey’s Employee Spotlight. The Employee Spotlight is a great opportunity to recognize the amazing team members that help make Macey’s a great place to shop and work.

January 2016

This month’s Employee Spotlight is on Karen Adams, Front End Supervisor at Spanish Fork Macey’s.

It all started for Karen when she was 16 years old; little did she know that applying for a job at Macey’s would lead to a lifelong, wonderful career.  Karen began her career as a bagger and sixteen years later, she is now Front End Supervisor.

It’s easy to find out what keeps Karen coming to work every day, the guests and her coworkers. Karen is very passionate about guest service. Taking care of the guests ensures that they keep coming back. She’s managed to form great friendships with the guests and they’ve come to expect that if a problem occurs, Karen will help them solve it. Along with the great guest relationships, Karen also thoroughly enjoys working with her front end team. She enjoys training new baggers, watching them grow and having fun.

“Karen Adams always comes to work with a smile and a great attitude.  It doesn’t matter if she is scheduled as a Front End Supervisor, a cashier or bagger; she always gives 100% effort.  There is not a job that is beneath her dignity.  I wish that I could have such a great attitude.”

– Bill Summers, Store Director

Karen’s favorite Macey’s branded item is the fresh salsa from produce. Made fresh daily at a cost you can’t beat, give it a try today.

Her tip for shopping Macey’s: Use Macey’s Anywhere to do your grocery shopping.

Macey’s Employee Spotlight- November

Maceys_EmployeeSpotlight_11Nov851x317Welcome to Macey’s Employee Spotlight. The Employee Spotlight is a great opportunity to recognize the amazing Team Members that help make Macey’s a great place to shop and work.

November 2015

This month’s Employee Spotlight is on Karen Kupfer, Store Trainer at the Ogden Macey’s.

With her bubbly personality and contagious laugh, Karen fits her position as Store Trainer perfectly. After starting as a cashier, she moved into cashier trainer and eventually moved into the Store Trainer position where she handles payroll, new employee orientation, HR and supervises the front end.

Karen is one in a million and a definite asset to Macey’s, she does it all!

  • Craig Howard, Store Director

Karen has been with the Ogden Macey’s for seventeen years. The people, friends and team members are what keep her working here. Her favorite part of her job is the new hire orientations. She loves introducing new employees to Macey’s and working with all of the different store departments.

Karen doesn’t just enjoy taking care of new employees; she also truly loves assisting store guests. She spoke of a time when she was helping an elderly lady out to her car. The lady realized that her keys were locked inside. The lady tried to call her husband to help her but was unsuccessful. Instead of leaving the guest to deal with this on her own, Karen drove her to her house to get a spare set of keys. If that isn’t great guest service, I’m not sure what is.

Karen’s favorite item at Macey’s is the fresh salsa from our produce department and it pairs nicely with the Macey’s tortilla chips.

Her Macey’s experience tip: Shop our fresh departments. We have a scratch bakery, fresh ground beef in the meat department and fresh salads in the deli.

Macey’s Employee Spotlight October 2015 – Meet Scott

Spotlight image

Welcome to Macey’s Employee Spotlight. The Employee Spotlight is a great opportunity to recognize the amazing employees that help make Macey’s a great place to shop and work.

October 2015

This month’s Employee Spotlight is on Scott Jensen, General Merchandise Manager at Macey’s Lehi.

Scott spends his time ensuring that his areas are merchandised beautifully and items are easy to find. He’s been in his current position for only 6 months but has already made a huge difference in the store merchandising. Scott loves being a GM Manager because he is allowed a chance to be creative.

Scott has been with Macey’s for three years, including two and a half years in the Receiving department. Scott came over to Macey’s from the Lin’s store in Cedar City. He feels good every day coming to work and calls Macey’s the best place he has worked.

Scott enjoys helping out in different departments. You can often find him assisting with the BBQ Box smoker, smoking delicious ribs or helping out at our local Farmer’s Market. Scott wanted to push our local Utah peaches so he took some of the peaches from the Farmer’s Market and put them in the BBQ Box creating a delicious grilled peach.

“There are no walls with Scott. He is always willing to help with anything that I ask. He never says no and I can always count on him to do a great job “said Dave Fisher, Store Director of Macey’s Lehi.

Scotts’ favorite Macey’s item is the bakery. He loves everything in the bakery from doughnuts, to cookies to breads. He also had some very nice things to say about our new exclusive brand of ice cream, Red Button Vintage Creamery. It sounds like Scott has a bit of a sweet tooth.

To make your experience at Macey’s even better, Scott recommends checking out the treasure aisle deal wall. Macey’s prides itself on providing a good value to customers.

Macey’s Employee Spotlight- Meet Cordell

Welcome to Macey’s Employee Spotlight. The Employee Spotlight is a great opportunity to recognize the amazing Team Members that help make Macey’s a great place to shop and work.

September 2015

This month’s Employee Spotlight is Cordell Nielson, Assistant Store Manager at Provo Macey’s.

It’s hard not to smile when you speak to Cordell. His passion for his job and joy for life shine through when he speaks. Cordell has been with Macey’s for twelve years, splitting the majority of those years between Provo and Orem Macey’s. He started on the freight crew and has worked his way up through various positions in the store. He loves his current position primarily because he likes being informed on the goings on of the store and having a plan of action.

Cordell defines what Macey’s is about. He is consistent, thorough and great at training people. He is dedicated to exhausting all efforts to take care of our guests.

  • Rich Jensen, Store Director

Cordell loves many things about Macey’s but the main one is the culture and the people. The team is hard-working, engaged and friendly and he enjoys coming to work every day. He also loves interacting with the guests who shop the store. He prides himself on guests having a great and satisfying shopping experience. The experience includes anything from the check stand and items being in stock to the cleanliness of the store.

Cordell doesn’t just hope guests have a great experience; he goes above and beyond to make sure they do. A guest came in last Thanksgiving to order turkeys for all of his employees as a holiday gift. Cordell worked with the meat manager to make sure they had the 200 turkeys required and at a great price. The guest did not have the means to transport all of the turkeys so Cordell created a voucher. He worked with the photo lab to create a custom voucher for each employee with their name and a holiday message for them to come in with and redeem their turkey. The system worked perfectly and all of the employees received their turkeys.

Cordell’s favorite Macey’s branded item is the Macey’s potato chips. The chips are great but what he loves the most is the resalable bag. It keeps you from having to hunt for a bag clip to keep them fresh.

His tip for shopping Macey’s: Double ad Monday. Monday’s at Macey’s are the days when the ads overlap and you can find some great deals.

Jayna is extremely dependable and always willing to help. She is very creative, great to work with and a complete asset to our store.

  • Rick Griess, Store Director

Jayna loves her co-workers and the guests who visit the store. She especially loves seeing one family who visits the deli every day. The family comes in with a budget and Jayna helps them determine what they can purchase with that amount. She looks forward to seeing them and truly enjoys helping them get the most for their money.  Her exceptional customer service exemplifies what Macey’s is about and doesn’t go unnoticed.

She is a kind person who enjoys helping and talking to others. Jayna is more than just a deli clerk. She is an accomplished writer and has self-published three young adult novels, including editing and marketing them. She usually always has copies with her. She loves her job at Macey’s because it also allows her to pursue her writing.

Jayna’s favorite item at Macey’s is the fresh salsa and she has to stop herself from buying it constantly.

Her Macey’s experience tip: If you need help, don’t hesitate to ask anyone. We are always willing to help.
