Grilled Cheese 3 Ways

Grilled Cheese is a classic meal that always hits the spot. Mix it up with these three recipes and bring a twist to this tasty sandwich.

Oven Grilled Cheese with Apples

Prep: 10 minutes   Bake: 6 minutes   Serves: 4

Ingredients

  • 8 slices cinnamon raisin or white bread
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 tablespoons jam or preserves such as apricot or orange
  • 1 package (8 ounces) Brie or Cheddar cheese, sliced
  • apples or pears, halved, cored and thinly sliced
  • ½ cup powdered sugar (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons milk or water (optional)

Recipe

  1. Place rimmed baking pan on middle rack in oven; preheat oven to 450°. Spread 1 side of bread slices with butter; place 4 slices, butter side down, on second rimmed baking pan. Top with jam, half the cheese, apples, and remaining half the cheese and 4 bread slices, butter side up.
  2. Carefully remove hot baking pan from oven and press on top of sandwiches; carefully place sandwiches between pans back on middle oven rack. Bake sandwiches 6 minutes or until cheese is melted and bread is golden brown.
  3. In small bowl, whisk powdered sugar and milk. Serve sandwiches drizzled with powdered sugar mixture, if desired.

  • 2 Roma tomatoes, cut into ¼-inch-thick slices (optional)
  • 1 large ripe avocado, peeled, pitted and sliced (optional)

Recipe

  1. Preheat oven to 375°; line rimmed baking pan with aluminum foil. Arrange bacon on prepared pan; bake 12 minutes or until crisp. Transfer bacon to cutting board; cut crosswise in half. Remove foil from pan; wipe pan clean with paper towel, if necessary. Place pan on middle oven rack; preheat to 450°.
  2. In small bowl, stir mayonnaise and sriracha. Makes about 6 tablespoons.

  • 1¾ cups shredded Colby Jack or mozzarella cheese
  • 2 Roma tomatoes, cut into ¼-inch-thick slices (optional)
  • 1 large ripe avocado, peeled, pitted and sliced (optional)

Recipe

  1. Preheat oven to 375°; line rimmed baking pan with aluminum foil. Arrange bacon on prepared pan; bake 12 minutes or until crisp. Transfer bacon to cutting board; cut crosswise in half. Remove foil from pan; wipe pan clean with paper towel, if necessary. Place pan on middle oven rack; preheat to 450°.
  2. In small bowl, stir mayonnaise and sriracha. Makes about 6 tablespoons.
  3. Spread 1 side of bread slices with mayonnaise mixture; place 4 slices, mayonnaise side down, on second rimmed baking pan. Top with ½ the cheese, bacon, tomatoes, avocado, remaining cheese and remaining 4 bread slices, mayonnaise side up.
  4. Carefully remove hot baking pan from oven and press on top of sandwiches; carefully place sandwiches between pans back on middle oven rack. Bake sandwiches 6 minutes or until cheese is melted and bread is golden brown.

  • 12 ounces canned tuna, drained
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup finely chopped pickles or pickled jalapeño peppers
  • ½ teaspoon Old Bay® seasoning
  • 8 slices white or pumpernickel bread
  • 8 slices American or provolone cheese

Recipe

  1. Place rimmed baking pan on middle rack in oven; preheat oven to 450°. In medium bowl, flake tuna with fork; fold in 3 tablespoons mayonnaise, pickles and seasoning. Makes about 1½ cups.
  2. Spread 1 side of bread slices with remaining 5 tablespoons mayonnaise; place 4 slices, mayonnaise side down, on second rimmed baking pan. Top with half the cheese, tuna mixture, and remaining half the cheese and 4 bread slices, mayonnaise side up.

  • 8            thick slices multigrain bread
  • 2            tablespoons olive oil
  • 1            package (8 ounces) Camembert cheese, sliced
  • ¼           cup chopped fresh basil

  1. In medium bowl, smash blackberries with a fork until slightly chunky.
  2. Brush 1 side of bread slices with oil; place oiled side down on work surface. Spread 4 bread slices with smashed blackberries; top with cheese, basil and remaining 4 bread slices, oiled side up.
