Investigation into this outbreak is on-going and will be monitored closely.

• CDC:  https://www.cdc.gov/ecoli/2018/o157h7-11-18/index.html

Consumers who have any type of Romaine Lettuce in their home should not eat it and should throw it away, even if some of it was eaten and no one has gotten sick.
o This advice includes all types or uses of Romaine Lettuce, such as whole heads of Romaine, hearts of Romaine, and bags and boxes of precut lettuce and salad mixes that contain Romaine, including baby Romaine, spring mix, and Caesar salad.

FSIS, and its public health partners, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Arizona Department of Health Services, have been conducting traceback activities for a sample of Jennie-O brand ground turkey in an intact, unopened package from a case-patient’s home. The patient tested positive for Salmonella Reading and the sample from the ground turkey matches the outbreak strain. FSIS, the CDC, and state public health and agriculture partners, have been working together on an illness cluster involving 164 case-patients in 35 states. Based on the continuing investigation, additional product from other companies may also be recalled.

Consumer Information

FSIS is concerned that some product may be frozen and in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Duncan Hines Recall

November 07, 2018
Conagra Brands is collaborating with health officials in connection with a positive finding of Salmonella in a retail sample of Duncan Hines Classic White cake mix that may be linked to a Salmonella outbreak that is currently being investigated by CDC and FDA. While it has not been definitively established that this product is linked to the outbreak and the investigation is still ongoing, Conagra has decided to voluntarily recall the specific Duncan Hines variety identified (Classic White) and three other varieties (Classic Butter Golden, Signature Confetti and Classic Yellow) made during the same time period out of an abundance of caution.
Cake mixes and batter can be made with ingredients such as eggs or flour which can carry risks of bacteria that are rendered harmless by baking, frying or boiling. The Duncan Hines Cake items were produced from March 7, 2018 through March 13, 2018. The products have a shelf life of 12 months. All product on the affected lots are to be destroyed.

Pinnacle Brands and AFS apologize for the inconvenience this action may have caused.

The FDA is advising consumers not to bake with or eat any recalled cake mix. If already purchased, consumers should throw it away or return to the place of purchase for a refund.
Consumers should always practice safe food handling and preparation measures. It is recommended that they wash hands, utensils, and surfaces with hot, soapy water before and after handling food.
FDA offers these tips for safe food handling to keep you and your family healthy:
• Do not eat any raw cake mix, batter, or any other raw dough or batter product that is supposed to be cooked or baked.
• Wash hands, work surfaces, and utensils thoroughly after contact with flour and raw batter or dough products.
